Holy Orders

"and like living stones be yourselves built into a spritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrificies acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." (1 Peter 2:5)

Holy Orders is the sacrament by which bishops, priests and deacons are ordained and receive the power and grace to perform their sacred duties.  Jesus at the Last Supper, ordained the apostles so that others could share in his priesthood.

Catholics believe that men who have been baptized can be called by God to minister to His Church.  Men who feel called to this sacrament go through many years of study and discernment before being ordained.
